The ACMI AP Seal stands for “Approved Product” and is issued by the Art & Creative Materials Institute (ACMI), a nonprofit organization dedicated to art material safety.
Products that carry the AP Seal have been independently reviewed by a certified toxicologist and found to be non-toxic. This means they do not contain materials in amounts that could be harmful to humans—including children—when used as intended.

Importantly, this is not a self-claimed label. The evaluation is conducted by qualified experts using established toxicological standards.
While we have been in the habit of 3rd party testing our products since our founding in 2011, over the years many of our customers have asked that we also work with ACMI. ACMI's AP Seal is the most recognized seal of approval in the U.S. when it comes to the toxicological evaluation of art supplies.
The ACMI AP Seal provides reassurance that:
-
Ingredients have been carefully evaluated for health risks and are considered non-toxic
-
The product is appropriate for use by children
-
Labeling and instructions meet safety requirements
For parents, teachers, and caregivers, the AP Seal offers a clear, recognizable indicator of safety.
Why it matters to us
As a company founded on safety and sustainability, it made sense to us to start the work of certifying our products with ACMI.
Carrying the ACMI AP Seal reflects our commitment to responsible, transparent information, and a willingness to work with established, trusted sources (while also continuing to go above and beyond in our own sourcing and independent testing). In essence, it goes hand in hand with our mission of making and providing the safest, most natural paint and art supplies.

If you ever have questions about our materials, ingredients, or safety standards, we’re always happy to share more.
