Sustainability

From our humble beginnings, Natural Earth Paint has prioritized Mother Nature and our earth-conscious customers as much as we have our bottom line. We strive to reduce our environmental impact and improve the planet in the process, and as such, we ensure that our facilities, ingredients, packaging, and contributions align with our values of safety and sustainability for all.

Our Facilities

We operate out of a 100% solar-powered facility in Southern Oregon. Our office also serves as a used plastic packaging drop-off site for local residents and businesses. When we reuse packaging from our community, we keep those materials out of the landfill.

Our Ingredients

We source our pigments and natural ingredients from businesses across the globe, and despite their geographic diversity, they have plenty in common—each one is small, family-owned, and harvests ingredients sustainably and ethically. Our natural binders and paint additives are organic and/or plant-based and safe for all. Check out our FAQ page, which has a ton of information about our products.

Our Packaging

We use 100% post-consumer recycled packaging, home-compostable pigment pouches, and recyclable glass and aluminum bottles for our products. Additionally, all our kit boxes are created in a wind-powered facility. We are constantly working to improve our product offerings as technologies improve and new packaging options become available. You can read more about our packaging journey here.

Our Contributions

We strive to be a truly eco-conscious business that does more than just provide safe, natural alternatives to conventional fine arts and crafts supplies—we also believe it’s equally important to live our values by giving back to organizations that protect and replenish Mother Earth.

Here is the complete list of organizations we donate to:

One Tree Planted

One Tree Planted is a non-profit organization with a focus on global reforestation. Natural Earth Paint plants one tree in the Amazon Rainforest for every product purchased on our website. As an environmental charity, they are dedicated to making it easier for individuals and businesses to give back to the environment, create a healthier climate, protect biodiversity and help reforestation efforts around the world. Rouge Climate

Rogue Climate’s mission is to empower Southern Oregon communities most impacted by climate change, including low-income, rural, youth, seniors, and communities of color, to win climate justice by organizing for clean energy, sustainable jobs, and a healthy environment (source). Natural Earth Paint has been donating monthly to this wonderful organization for many years.

Rogue River Keeper

Rogue Riverkeeper is an advocacy organization that works to protect and restore clean water, native fish and healthy communities in the Rogue River Basin, using fundamental environmental protections like the Clean Water Act to improve water quality across the 3.3 million acres of the Rogue watershed (source). Natural Earth Paint has been donating monthly for many years.

A Million Choices Project

A Million Choices Project  promotes and encourages access to the arts for underprivileged children in developing countries. This project strives to provide hope and creative outlets to children impacted by poverty and the threat of human trafficking. With the help of AMCP, these children receive the opportunity to explore and fuel their imaginations through the medium of art.

PS Arts

PSARTS is dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing arts education to underserved public schools and communities in Southern and Central California, including education in dance, music, theater, and visual arts. Without PSARTS’ programs, children in the underfunded school districts the organization serves would not have access to the arts. We donate paints to their fundraisers (source).

Buffalo Field Campaign

Buffalo Field Campaign is the only group working both in the field and in the policy arenas to stop the harassment and slaughter of America’s last wild buffalo. They also protect the natural habitat of wild free-roaming bison and other native wildlife, and stand with First Nations to honor the sacredness of wild buffalo. Their primary goal is to create permanent year-round protection for bison and the ecosystem they depend on (source). Learn more about them on our blog.

Green America

Green America harnesses economic power—the strength of consumers, investors, businesses, and the marketplace—to create a socially just and environmentally sustainable society, focusing on climate and clean energy, sustainable food and agriculture, responsible investing, and fair labor. They work for a world where all people have enough, where all communities are healthy and safe, and where the abundance of the Earth is preserved for all the generations to come (source). Learn more about them on our blog.

Prime Earth

Prime Earth’s mission is to educate, empower, and engage people to become compassionate global citizens living in harmony with nature and each other. They strive to help create a world in which people revere nature and human diversity by understanding that humans fit within a global ecosystem and are deeply connected to the environment (source).

Rocky Mountain Wild

Rocky Mountain Wild is a non-profit organization that works to protect, connect, and restore wildlife and wildlands in the Southern Rocky Mountain region. Using research, community science, legal action, and advanced geospatial analysis, they offer solutions for conserving our most at-risk animal and plant species and landscapes (source).

Plant a Tree Campaign

In honor of Earth Day 2013, we launched a campaign to plant 400 native tree seedlings each year to offset any energy we may use in the making of our products. We accomplished our goal from 2013-2015 and built a strong community in the process. We focused on heavily-logged areas as well as riparian areas that needed to be restored. Since then, we have partnered with One Tree Planted to further expand our positive impact on reforestation efforts around the world.
