Description

Our new plant-based Natural Acrylik Medium is the first of its kind, made with naturally archival ingredients to provide a permanent, water-resistant and non-yellowing finish that dries crystal clear. 16 oz. glass jar.

Just like conventional acrylic mediums, this Natural Acrylik Medium has many uses, including mixing with natural pigments to make natural acrylic paint, varnishing, adhering, collaging and more. You can finally paint with confidence knowing there are no harmful additives, stabilizers, or heavy metals added! Packaged in a 16 oz. glass jar.

Winter Warning: This medium needs to stay above freezing during shipping or it will react and be un-usable. If you live in a northern, cold climate please write "Insulate Please" in the Order Notes when checking out. Also, be careful to not leave sitting outside after delivered.

Return Policies

We offer full refunds on any defective or damaged products. We also offer full refunds (less shipping costs) on elective returns if the product is in re-sellable condition and the return has been made within 3 months of the purchase.

Shipping Policies

Free Standard Shipping on orders above $100 for U.S. customers.

Orders containing in-stock items are typically processed within 2 business days from when we receive the order during operating hours. If a purchase contains out-of-stock or pre-order items, we will ship the order once ALL items are available and it can be fulfilled completely. Once an order is shipped, you will receive a confirmation email with tracking information; please save this email in case of any issues with your order.

After a package leaves our facility, it becomes the responsibility of the contracted carrier to get it to you. Any issues or problems that arise must be resolved with them directly. For USPS orders in particular, we've be instructed that it is best for the recipient to first speak with their local post office regarding any concerns.

Additionally, you can monitor your shipment or file a claim for lost mail with each of the carriers we use: U.S. Postal Service, UPS, or FedEx.

We work hard to ensure orders are processed and received as quickly as possible, but unfortunately, we're unable to locate lost or delayed packages. We recognize errors happen and ask for your patience in those circumstances, but we will not ship replacement items or issue refunds until a formal determination is made by the carrier. Please use the resources outlined above to seek resolution if needed.

 

International Shipping

If you’re ordering from Europe, Canada, Australia or New Zealand, please click the appropriate link to visit the distributor for your region. We normally ship USPS International for international orders, and the order typically takes 2-3 weeks for delivery. Due to global constraints, shipping times may vary, and additional delays can occur due to customs inspections. Since we never know if a package will be held at customs, any import fees or taxes applied to the delivery must be paid by the recipient.
PRODUCT FAQs

Can I add water to it / can it be thinned with water
This acrylic can be thinned with as much water as conventional acrylic medium. 

Is it UV resistant?
Unfortunately, it is not. However, if you are mixing it with natural earth pigments or brushing over a natural earth pigment painting then it will be completely UV resistant and never fade - because of the pigments themselves.

Is it waterproof?
It is water resistant.

Can I add pigment to it?
Mix with our Earth & Mineral Pigments to make your own natural acrylic paints that are perfect for use on canvas, paper, fabric, wood, stone, drywall and metal. 

How does it dry / what is the finish?                          
The natural acrylik medium dries to a semi-gloss.

Is it biodegradable?
The natural acrylic medium does biodegrade over a long period of time, but it will not break down quickly in compost units because it is meant to be durable and permanent. 

If you prefer a biodegradable paint then a better option would be our Complete Eco-friendly Oil Paint Kit, Natural Watercolor Kit Natural Earth Paint Kit, or any of the recipes on our website (watercolor, gouache, egg tempera, etc.). These paints will be permanent and archival as well if kept indoors away from elements, but if they are thrown away or left out in the elements, they will turn back to earth.

How does it compare to traditional
acrylic mediums  
This medium behaves exactly like conventional acrylic gloss medium and will create a very durable, archival, solid paint film. The only difference between this product and conventional acrylic medium is that this one is made with plants and non-toxic ingredients whereas conventional is made with petroleum and toxic additives.

Can I use it as a varnish?
Yes, it works great to seal paintings, wood, and any craft projects. Works great as a protectant over our Natural Earth Paints. We also make a Natural Varnish as well. 

Can I use it for collage or mixed media
projects?
Yes, our Acrylik Medium acts as a natural adhesive, perfect for mixed media or collage artworks.

Is it archival?               
Yes, this medium behaves exactly like conventional acrylic medium and will create a very durable, archival, solid paint film.

Can I wash it down the drain?
Our Natural Acrylik Medium has been certified safe to wash down the drain to be safely filtered by any septic city filtration system and will not damage pipes. However, we still recommend throwing away used paint in the trash if you're getting rid of large amounts of paint rather than pouring it down a drain. Washing brushes out in the sink is completely fine.

How long does it take to dry?          
10-45 minutes depending on humidity levels

How long will the Natural Acrylik Medium last once painted
The acrylic medium has the same longevity as conventional acrylic. While there's no scientific evidence yet surrounding exactly how long acrylics last (acrylic paint has only been around for 70 years!), we can promise at least 70+ years in gallery-like conditions (with limited humidity, dirt, and direct bright sunlight). The paint film is highly flexible, durable, non-yellowing, non-cracking and water-resistant when dry.

How much coverage can I get out of one jar of your Natural Acrylik Medium if I'm using it as a sealant?          
The 16 oz. jar will give you approximately 70 square feet of coverage. It can also be thinned with water like conventional acrylic mediums to extend the coverage.

Non- Toxic Medium That Won't Give You The Glue Headaches!

I am over the moon happy about this product! Such an awesome way to glue down my collage papers without having to have that awful glue smell or the headaches that go with it! Love the creamy smooth texture and how clean and clear it dries. GREAT PRODUCT... I highly recommend it!!!

Not worth it for casuals

I really wanted to like this, alongside mixing it with the pigments. However, the process was just not fun for a casual amateur painter (I paint max twice a year). After mixing, I didn't even want to paint anymore. It left a mess, it took a long time, and the smell gave me a headache.

We also tried painting with it and it comes out streaky. I assume it'd be easier to really dissolve all the powder if you had the glass Mueller set they sell, but as a casual I don't see the justification in purchasing that.

I regret the amount of money and work I spent on trying to make these work for me, but I just can't recommend this to anyone who's just a casual painter like me.
