We are a small, woman-owned and run business operating out of a solar-powered facility in Southern Oregon. We also double as a used packaging drop-off site for local residents and businesses. We use 100% post-consumer recycled packaging, home compostable paint pouches and recyclable glass and aluminum bottles for our products.

We give back by donating to "One Tree Planted" and "Rogue Climate" every month and continue to donate to various humanitarian and environment causes throughout the year.

Generally, all orders are shipped using zero-waste packaging and materials. Our shipping department uses paper stuffing and biodegradable paper tape, with the exception of shipping glass, as noted in the product descriptions for products made of glass.

Return Policies

We offer full refunds on any defective or damaged products. We also offer full refunds (less shipping costs) on elective returns if the product is in re-sellable condition and the return has been made within 3 months of the purchase.

Shipping Policies

Free Standard Shipping on orders above $150 for U.S. customers.

Orders containing in-stock items are typically processed within 2 business days from when we receive the order during operating hours. If a purchase contains out-of-stock or pre-order items, we will ship the order once ALL items are available and it can be fulfilled completely. Once an order is shipped, you will receive a confirmation email with tracking information; please save this email in case of any issues with your order.

After a package leaves our facility, it becomes the responsibility of the contracted carrier to get it to you. Any issues or problems that arise must be resolved with them directly. For USPS orders in particular, we've be instructed that it is best for the recipient to first speak with their local post office regarding any concerns.

Additionally, you can monitor your shipment or file a claim for lost mail with each of the carriers we use: U.S. Postal Service, UPS, or FedEx.

We work hard to ensure orders are processed and received as quickly as possible, but unfortunately, we're unable to locate lost or delayed packages. We recognize errors happen and ask for your patience in those circumstances, but we will not ship replacement items or issue refunds until a formal determination is made by the carrier. Please use the resources outlined above to seek resolution if needed.

International Shipping

If you’re ordering from Europe, Canada, Australia or New Zealand, please click the appropriate link to visit the distributor for your region. We normally ship USPS International for international orders, and the order typically takes 2-3 weeks for delivery. Due to global constraints, shipping times may vary, and additional delays can occur due to customs inspections. Since we never know if a package will be held at customs, any import fees or taxes applied to the delivery must be paid by the recipient.

PRODUCT FAQs

How are these different from regular acrylics?
They are made with a plant-based resin instead of petroleum-based resin; they are made with natural earth pigments or non-toxic synthetic pigments instead of heavy metal or petrochemical-based pigments; they do not contain the many hazardous chemical additives (many of which are hormone disruptors or carcinogenic). These additives have all been replaced with bio-based and non-toxic alternatives that give the paint the same handling properties as mainstream acrylic paint.

Is it biodegradable?
The natural acrylic paint and medium does not biodegrade quickly or home compost because it is meant to be a durable, permanent paint. It will break down over a long period of time like conventional acrylic paint. It is made with a plant-based resin, natural or non-toxic pigments and most importantly no carcinogenic or hormone disrupting additives that are in conventional acrylic paints - here is a blog post that goes into more detail.

Natural Acrylic Paint does not off-gas highly toxic fumes when it dries. When washed down the drain it can be safely filtered from water systems via city filtration septic systems and when thrown away can go into trash to start its journey of breaking down.

If you prefer a biodegradable paint then a
better option would be our Complete Eco-friendly Oil Paint Kit, our Natural Watercolor Kit, Natural Earth Paint Kit, or any recipes on our website (gouache, egg tempera, casein paint, etc.). These paints will be permanent and archival as well (if kept indoors away from elements) but if they are thrown away or left out in the elements, they will turn back to earth.

Can I mix it with conventional acrylics?
Yes, they mix perfectly with conventional acrylics.

Are they archival and lightfast?
Yes, absolutely.

What are the exact ingredients in the Natural Acrylic Paint?
The acrylic is a unique formulation that we have spent years working on with many chemists, so the specific ingredients are a proprietary recipe until patented. I hope you understand that we cannot share specific ingredients, however we can say that ingredients are plant-based and non-toxic.

What is the finish / how do they dry? Gloss, semi-gloss, matte, satin?
It varies slightly depending on the pigment used but most dry to a gloss finish and a few dry satin/matte.

Can the heavy body paints be thinned down with water to make fluid acryliks?
Yes

Why do you call it Acrylik with a "k"?
Acrylik paints are made with plant-based instead of petroleum-based resin, as well as other ingredients that are more sustainable, safer/non-toxic, and less harmful to bodies and the planet than conventional acrylic. We changed the spelling of "acrylic" slightly so that customers would recognize the style of paint that this is, but recognize right off the bat that it's not the same thing.

How long does it take to dry?
The same speed as conventional acrylics - about 10-40 min., depending on the humidity level you're in. For painting fabric, we recommend letting it cure for 24 hours before putting it in the wash.

Does the acrylic paint work as a permanent fabric paint?
The Acryliks (either the pre-mixed tubes or the Natural Acylik Medium mixed with the Earth & Mineral Pigments) will be permanent once dry. For textiles, we recommend a full 24 hour drying time before washing or wearing. But at that point, the paint will be sweat resistant. When washing, we recommend washing by hand or on a gentle cycle with cold water and lay flat or hang dry. How to Video

Our Natural Acrylic Medium is an excellent choice to make permanent fabric paint. It is a clear medium so you can mix any of our natural pigments with it to create the colors of your choice. What about clean-up?
Isopropyl alcohol is appropriate to use for cleaning up dried paint. Large amounts of paint should be disposed on in the trash, not the compost. Brushes, hands, and palettes can be cleaned in the sink with soap and water.

Does it smell?
Yes, natural acrylik paints smell similar to other acrylic paints. However, there are no toxic VOCs, and many people who are generally sensitive to acrylic paints report they are able to use natural acrylik without symptoms.

At last, acryliks! (heavy body tubes)

I love painting in watercolor and gouache, but have always avoided acrylic paints because of their fumes and toxicity. Discovering Natural Earth Paints acryliks has greatly expanded my art practice! I use only nontoxic art materials and am thrilled to expand my options with another medium.
These paints are luscious and gooey straight from the tube, a dream to paint with from the very beginning. The colors are incredibly rich and yummy! In addition to painting, I look forward to making monoprints with them.
NEP’s customer service has been outstanding and I commend the company’s commitment to sustainability in every aspect of their products and shipping.
A few suggestions: I agree with the reviewer who wants the color names to accurately describe the colors, as well as full technical information on the labels. I’d also like to see colors like Cerulean Blue, Raw Umber, a bright warm orange, a light green such as Serpentine, and a bright, true pink added to the range.

An amazing paint!

I switched to these paints after beating bladder cancer. I want nothing to do with toxins! Let me tell you about these paints. So very versatile. I buy the acylik heavy body and have found you can use them as is or add water which creates a stunning watercolor type effect. They work better than oils in my opinion and FAR better than regular toxic acrylic paint. I love love love them. I was skeptical before using them, (plant based? Ok sure…) but they provide superior coverage and blend ability. I was blown away! Please consider making all colors available in 4oz sizes, not just white. I highly recommend these paints,and fyi..their customer service team goes above and beyond if you have questions or issues regarding these paints,sealants etc. Thank you SO much for providing me with another paint option, I thought my painting days were over.

Fluid Acrylik Paint

I am using this paint exclusively now. The paint is very highly pigmented. I tried to dilute it with water like I did with my old paints and it took a lot of water! I paint in my bedroom so this paint is a godsend, so I'm not breathing fumes! Thank you very much, excellent paint, lots of colors

Beautiful Quality that I can stand behind

I have been using Natural Earth Paints whenever I can over the last few months. I know that not every color I am used to is in the range, and there is something comforting in that. I am back to mixing more regularly, which I LOVE. Convenience colors were perhaps too convenient. I think mixing from these 20 colors is a benefit to me, and it makes me feel good while I'm working to know that most of my colors are not petroleum derived.
As I use the other brands of paint that I still have, I am finding that they mix great (waste not), but I could see myself shifting to more and more of the Natural earth paints for the fixability and viscosity. They are great with a brush or with a knife (though I do use a little modeling paste at times to make them even more dense). Straight out of the tube they are soft, like an oil paint. And every time I wash a brush I think just a little about microplastics in the water, so now I feel like a part of the change I'm looking to see.
